My Ving Chun Kuen

I first started training in Ving Chun Kuen back in 1995 with Awatea Edwin in Dunedin.



At my first training session I was somewhat sceptical about the combat applications of Ving Chun Kuen, well for the first 10 minutes anyway.......... untill Awatea demonstrated the one inch punch.... on me! to respect others you must respect yourself

Over the last month or so i have noticed that students show up to class in Jeans , Hoodies , Street shoes Baseball caps etc.



When I started Training Ving Chun in the late 80s there was a certain Dress code ; with Shirt, black trousers and soft shoes. The appearance was tidy and no bad body odours.

For over a decade its have been an honour to be a part of the Ue Kaha Warrior system and a little later the Man Sau Gwoon Wing Chun system. Nim in Siu Nim Tau

Nim or idea/thought.



Yip Man was once asked by his student/disciple Tsui Seung Tin (Chu Shong Tin) what the meaning was behind name of Wing Chun's first form - Siu Nim Tau, particularly as the name seemingly has no connotations of being referenced to combat, because after all Wing Chun Kuen is a very combat orientated system. Me and My girls - Nathan Cooper

My name is Nathan, I am 31yrs old. When I was 8 I started Zen Do Kai karate until i reached brown belt black tips when I was 13. I quit then for other teenage type of things, if you know what I mean!!! Pleased to have found Wing Chun - Ian Muir

After many years of training & reaching the age of 50 I was ready to give up martial arts training & do somthing else, A friend of mine (Pierre) invited me to join him at a Man Sau Gwoon Wing Chun class to see what I thought.
