After many years of training & reaching the age of 50 I was ready to give up martial arts training & do somthing else, A friend of mine (Pierre) invited me to join him at a Man Sau Gwoon Wing Chun class to see what I thought. I am very pleased I went, I haven't missed a training night since, that was 12 months ago. Prior to this i went through the ranks at Chans martial arts gained 1st degree black belt, I started a branch of chans & had aprox 50 students training, I started to doubt the effectivness of what I was teaching, many of the techniques work fine in tournaments or with a willing & cooperative training partner but not on the street against an agressive attacker. I moved on & trained with Dfense martial arts(muay thai & sir dorr kung fu) this training was far more effective but very hard on the body, most new students left because of this. In my first month of Wing Chun training I had several private sessions with Sifu Awatea I was completley blown away by the way he could shut down anything I threw at him & finish me off with what seemed like very little effort. Training in Man Sau Gwoon Wing Chun has given me a new enthusiasim to train, I see Wing Chun as a no nonsence martial art that works. I thoroughly enjoy being part of the club & have made some very good friends & training partners.
